Four new shippers strengthen BICEPS Network to further leverage forces for a cleaner shipping sector

Together, as the BICEPS Network, now nine shippers represent an even more  significant amount of shipping demand that will be used to give a boost to change in the right direction.

Vion Food Group, A European based global food company joins the BICEPS Network, underlining their commitment:

And we continue to cut emissions throughout our entire value chain, by optimizing our processes, implementing energy efficiency projects, and through close collaboration on new concepts with our customers and logistical partners. In total the BICEPS Network has now grown to nine member shippers. The shippers in the BICEPS Network will act together in the dialogue with the shipping sector on how to create sustainable improvements and boost innovations . All shippers will use the BICEPS Rating System in their procurement processes of their global oceanfreight transports and use the actual sustainability performance of carriers as a factor in their allocation.

About BICEPS NETWORK

Five major companies have started the BICEPS Network to join forces to contribute to a more sustainable shipping industry. AB InBev, AkzoNobel, DSM, FrieslandCampina and Huntsman have developed a common and concurrent approach to sustainability in their procurement of ocean freight and selection of carriers. A first step has been the development of the BICEPS Rating System. The BICEPS Network started also an active dialogue with the carriers how to jointly come to more sustainable logistics chains. The BICEPS Network is in addition working together with the shipping sector to persuade other sector partners to participate in the realization of sustainable practices and innovations within the whole sector (like incentive schemes by ports, adopting of clean technologies and re-usage or recycling of end-of-life ships).

The BICEPS Network Foundation governs the BICEPS Network with a board consisting of representatives (supply chain & logistics managers) of the participating companies. The coordination of the BICEPS Network is realized by Pure Birds.

The BICEPS Network invites other shippers to also join the Network, use the Rating System in their procurement and share best practices. Next to that, the BICEPS Network also actively organizes dialogues between shippers, carriers and chain partners to stimulate sustainable improvements and the adoption of clean technologies and other sustainable innovations.
